Located approximately 8 kilometers from Tanga city along Tanga Mombasa road  and covering an area of 234km2 Amboni caves are limestone caves found in Tanga region dating back to 150 million years since its formation (Jurassic age)Amboni caves are the only formal tourist destination in Tanga area ,the caves have also never been fully explored. According to some researches the areas was underwater about 20 millions years ago. The area also has 10 caves but only 1 cave is used for guided tours Although the exact time when Amboni caves were discovered is unknown reports suggest that the caves were used for prayers by ethnic groups such as Sambaa, Bondei, Digo and Segeju who resided near them.What to expectBats flights-hundreds of bats flying out of the cave in the evening.Rocks in different shapes like crocodiles elephants map of Africa statue of liberty etc.
